Therapy the Natural Way

Natural Therapy is a health care theory that blends traditional and natural medical theories into a complete whole. This type of therapy focuses on the use of treatments such as Clinical Nutrition (including the use of herbal and other supplements) and lifestyle counseling to enhance the health of the patient. One of the key roles of a Natural Therapist is to restore and maintain the health of the patient by emphasizing the individual healing potential that lies within all human beings.

A secondary role of a practitioner lies in the identification of problems before they arise. Instead of viewing diseases as being caused by external factors a practitioner instead considers them as being the result of lifestyle choices, choices that are within the control of the patient. By identifying the problems early the practitioner can deal with them without resorting to more intrusive measures.

Historically the roots of Natural Therapy can be found in the teachings of Hippocrates (460-370 BCE) who promoted the healing power of nature. More recently, in the 19th century, Dr. Benedict Lust (1872-1925) in North America expounded its virtues and created a college in New York. Currently there are thousands of practitioners in Canada and many more around the world.
