New Options: Therapeutic Lifestyle Change ProgramNovember 7th, 2007These days Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Program is proving to be the key to successful living in our fast-paced, hectic world. Some times its very hard to make the necessary changes though which is why we at CD Whyte Ridge Compounding Pharmacy are here. We can help advise you in making the choices that will benefit you the most!In many ways Canada is only slowly following the examples of other countries, including the United States. There the Centre for Disease Control has been instrumental in organizing and developing national programs to teach people how to be healthier: In 2002 the Healthy People Curriculum Task Force was established with the mission of fulfilling objective 1-7 of Healthy People 2010 (2,4), to increase the proportion of schools of medicine, schools of nursing, and other health professional training schools whose basic curriculum includes the core competencies in health promotion and disease prevention. Source: CDC The essential elements of the program we at CD Whyte Ridge recommend are: Exercise exercise aerobically 3 times a week, anything that gets your heart rate up to the proper target heart rate based on age (come down and ask about specific advice about what your goal should be) Sleep 8 hours of sleep a night and make sure you go to bed each night at the same time so you get into a rhythm Natural Sunlight at least 30 minutes per day either naturally or through full spectrum lights (this really helps) Omega Three Fatty Acid Supplements look for brands that provide a 3 to 2 ratio of EPA and DHA from pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil (which will avoid toxins.) We have several varieties available Practice daily relaxation exercises to calm your mind (there are several which I can suggest, please ask me in person and well find what works best for you) Social Interaction spend more time with others in positive environments Increased Mental Exercise avoid negative thoughts Diet see below Diet is an important part of the program. I recommend that my patients should try to reach a dietary balance that allows their body to work at its optimum efficiency: Eat just enough calories to achieve your healthy weight (there are many actuarial tables to help calculate each persons healthy weight) During the day only 25% of your daily calories should come from good fat (ask me about specifics) Eat more vegetables, up to 50% of every meal should be vegetables Eat good protein, up to 25% of every meal can be protein (ask me about what is good protein) As much as possible avoid starchy carbohydrates, this can be hard but it pays off in terms of health and general well-being This diet also has the side effect of reducing blood cholesterol levels and dramatically reducing your chances of heart disease! An additional benefit to this kind of program is how good you will feel!
